| Nov/Dec NEWS including CAFE BRIDGE and Children-In-Need |
|
On Sunday 9th November, WBC regained the Healey Cup, a County Teams-of-Four competition, which we won in 2023, with the same line-up of Bryan Ratcliffe, Brian Yates, John Dowbiggin and Mike Vetch.
We were fully involved in the Children-in-Need Sim Pairs events with heats on Tue afternoon and Wed evening (11th/12th Nov). We raised over £280 - Thank you for your generosity! Tue Results are HERE; Tuesday Commentary is HERE; Wed Results HERE ; Wednesday Commentary is HERE. Congrats to Martyn + Richard, 2nd of 1182 pairs nationally! Also to Marian + Maureen who won the Wednesday heat.
Also on Wed was our 10th Café Bridge, ably run by Yvette with a great team of volunteers; many thanks to all! We've had loads of positive feedback, + useful ideas on how we could do even better! Winners were David + Adam Waide with 72.6%!
Our Café Bridge was in aid of The Stroke Association. We've already raised well over £500 for this excellent cause. We chose the Stroke Association since a number of our members have been affected by stroke; notably Ross, who died last December; Peter, now back playing at Hallow, and Tim Keates, who is now in an excellent care home near Reading - see picture! TIM was instrumental in setting up Café Bridge, and will be pleased to hear of the success of the event!
On Wed 3rd December, Paul Hammond and David Thomas were confirmed as "P" Pairs Champions for 2025. Wed 10th December will see the Play-off Final, where a different winner is guaranteed to be crowned, as David is now living in Scotland, though still active in our Online Pairs League.

| Congratulations to Mike! |
|
We are delighted that the EBU has recognised our own Mike Vetch to receive this year's Dimmie Fleming award. Dimmie ran the English Bridge Union from her home, as secretary from 1955 to 1974, and was only the second woman to play in a British open team. The award is to publicly recognise those people who have, for a long time, worked hard for bridge in administration at County level. Well done Mike, you join a select group of Worcestershire players to have previously won the award, including Ron Allen (1990), Bill Dalman (1997), John Turner (2002), Jean Newton (2004), John Cattanach (2005) and Paul Hammond (2007).

| Upcoming Events at WBC |
Lots of exciting things coming up in the next few weeks/months: put these dates in your diaries!
Now our charity week is over, it's time to think about CHRISTMAS!
As usual we plan to have fun, with PARTIES scheduled for Tue 16th Dec and Wed 17th Dec; these will be TEAMS events, with Tuesday's following the "scratch teams" format, and the Wednesday one with planned teams. More details to follow soon, but you can be sure of: Free Bridge; Food; Drink; Prizes as ever!
To-be-confirmed will be our usual "SIM" pairs event with our French exchange Club, Romorantin, which would be on Tue 23rd December - some further communications with the Romorantin President still needed. Watch this space!
Also we DO plan to have a normal session on Tuesday 30th December - but NOT on New Year's Eve!
